Why should i donate to a company that will make earnings on my free contributions?

Thanks for the words. We (Openmoko, Inc and Wikimedia) are donating WikiReaders for free to interesting organizations. This is a service to help spread knowledge. We’re not asking for your money here. We only ask that, if you’re interested, you donate a few minutes of your time. Details are coming soon… our site is almost ready to launch.
LOVE the project, waiting till it will be available europe too.
I will be some and hand out to my mom and grandparents, and a few selected customer as a present! Amazone.co.uk still doens’t sell them… Checking my friends, maybe one visits the US soon..
Please note European based Wikireader Shop: http://www.pulster.eu
We ship inside Europe for 15 eur. Price 109 eur including already all taxes, duties and fees.
How about a nice easy to carry audio based WIKI WRIST WATCH.
You could simply say the word and the watch could reply with all the WIKI details.
Because its I/O is only a mic and speaker there would be no bulk to carry around.
I have no money but wanted to give back for your good intentions and help.
If it works out well, give me a small cut of the profit and with the resources I could do a lot more good work.

Hi, I love my Wikireader. But how about an easy way to add other Wikies to my Wikireader.
I use a 16GB Micro SD card and have lots of room.
For traveling, I would love to add Wikitravel to my Wikireader. Or perhaps some other Wikis.
In any case, I do love my Wikireader. Thanks.

We released a new version of the update app that has more options. Also Wikitravel is coming very soon. Please stay tuned!
Many thanks to everyone at Openmoko Inc. for their great work with Wikireader. With my 16GB Micro SD card, I now have Wikipedia English, Wiki Travel, Dictionary, Quotes, and Project Gutenberg all on my Wikireader with lots of room left over for some possible additions in the future. So much knowledge in such a small independent piece of technology that doesn’t need wifi. Amazing ! Also when I was at an electronics store, I found a small padded protective case that it fits into perfectly with a belt loop and little zipper puch to hold an extra set of batteries, extra micro SD card and adapter.
Can you tell us how often up-dates will take place? Will you announce them on this website?
Sincere thanks again for Wikireader.

Thanks for these comments Robert. We plan on releasing four updates per year (seasonally). We’ll announce these in our newsletter (sign up on the home page of this site) and on Twitter (@wikireader).
Is there any way to get the decent information from online resources such as the thorn tree (lonely planet), or information from couchsurfing.com for local contact points? Micro maps or general traintimes (snapshots of timetables and such) would also be an immensely useful asset. Good work. I’ll be contributing best I can in the coming months.
Awesome work, folks! Would it be possible to port the 16GB card (with Wiki Travel, Project Gutenberg, et al) to any of the popular ereaders? I know the Kindle doesn’t support memory cards but maybe Pocketbook, Bookeen, CyBook or Barnes & Nobel’s Nook? The display capability is already present on those platforms and it would be so worth a subscription to put your vast collection on an ereader.
It’s really a matter of focus and resources. At this point we can only support our own hardware at the quality level we strive for. In the future we’d love to support more devices, though.
Really anything with an indexable text format is doable. Have you seen Gutenberg? That’s probably a good reference to start. email code@thewikireader.com if you get stuck!
I really like my Wikireader and have some suggestions for future updates: Can there be an update to make the text on the screen darker to provide more contrast and an option to increase the font size and style – both would make the Wikireader easier to read. In the future I hope to see the addition of tables, charts, and photos to the Wiki updates. I really like the addition of Gutenberg books, which makes the Wikireader like an ebook reader.

@Anthony
See the FAQs on the support page for info on changing the contrast of the reader.
@WikiReader
Probably would be a good idea to include the contrast info in the manual. If that is not an immediate option, then the description on the Amazon page where a lot of people go to read reviews could state that contrast can be adjusted.

We’re able to ship to the UK for around USD 25. Sorry we don’t have a more cost effective option at this point.
